Operation on rational numbers

Use the distributive property to find the value of each of the following:

1 511 × 17 + 511 × 67

2 917 × 21 - 917 × 4

3 2225 × 611 + 511 × 2225 - 2225

4 712 × 5 + 4912 - 712 × 11

Solution

1 511 × 17 + 511 × 67 = 511 × (17 + 67) = 511 × 77 = 511 × 1 = 511

2 917 × 21 - 917 × 4 = 917 × (21 - 4) = 917 × 17 = 9

3 2225 × 611 + 511 × 2225 - 2225 × 1 = 2225 × (611 + 511 - 1) = 2225 × (1111 - 1) = 2225 × (1 - 1) = 2225 × 0 = 0

4 712 × 5 + 4912 - 712 × 11 = 712 × 5 + 712 × 7 - 712 × 11 = 712 × (5 + 7 - 11) = 712 × 1 = 712
