Write the given rational numbers in fraction form ab
Problems
a. −3
b. −0.31
c. 325
d. 2.5
Solution
a. −3 = −31
∵ Any integer can be written as a fraction with denominator 1
∴ −3 = −31
b. −0.31 = −31100
∵ 0.31 has 2 decimal places, so we use 100 as denominator
∴ −0.31 = −31100
c. 325 = (3 × 5) + 25 = 175
∵ Mixed number: whole part × denominator + numerator
Step 1: 3 × 5 = 15
Step 2: 15 + 2 = 17
∴ 325 = 175
d. 2.5 = 2510 = 52
∵ 2.5 has 1 decimal place, so we use 10 as denominator
Step 1: 2.5 = 2510
Step 2: Simplify by dividing both numerator and denominator by 5
∴ 2.5 = 52
