Prep 1 Math Problem: Gasoline Consumption (First Term)

Math Problem - Prep 1 - Egyptian Curriculum

Solution for a Math Problem

Here is a solution for a Mathematics problem for **Preparatory 1 (Prep 1)**, **First Term**, from the **Egyptian Curriculum**.

Problem: Gasoline Consumption

A car consumes 3 liters of gasoline to travel 33 km.

How many liters of gasoline does it need to travel 121 km, if it consumes gasoline at the same rate?

Solution

Assume the car consumes \( X \) liters of gasoline to travel 121 km.

$$ \frac{X}{121} = \frac{3}{33} $$

$$ 33 \times X = 3 \times 121 $$

$$ 33 X = 363 $$

$$ \frac{33 X}{33} = \frac{363}{33} $$

$$ X = 11 $$

which means that the car needs 11 liters of gasoline.
